Course of Study for B.A. I
Compulsory subjects:

Elective subjects:
The
student has to opt for three elective subjects in addition to the above
mentioned three compulsory subjects. They have to choose these elective
subjects in such a way that not more than one subject is opted for from
the following group of subjects :

English, Hindi, Punjabi, French (elective)

Economics, Fine Arts

History, Mathematics, Music (Instrumental), Functional English

Music (Vocal), Sociology
-
Public Administration, Home Science, Philosophy

Political Science, Indian Classical Dance

Functional English
This subject offers media studies – print, television and radio journalism.
Number of seats - 30
For admission to Functional English the following criteria, as outlined by the University Grants Commission, will be followed:
-
Preference will be given to students who have cleared + 2 with English Course A.

A test will be conducted for speaking and writing skills.
The above criteria will be combined with the marks that the student has secured in English and in the aggregate. The test will be conducted in the auditorium on the day the admissions open to B.A. I. The decision of the Admission Committee will be final.
Guidelines for choice of subjects:
-
Change of subject will be allowed only upon the availability of the seat in the subject to be opted for.

Students
opting for science, commerce and any other practical subject must note
that they cannot appear as private candidates if they do not fulfill
the condition that requires them to have an attendance of 75%, both in
theory and practicals. Students are also required to fulfill the
academic conditions laid down by the university in terms of a minimum
score in the house examinations.

A student cannot opt for Mathematics unless it was one of the subjects cleared by her in the previous examination.

Students
who have not studied French earlier can take it up as an elective
subject in B.A.- I, since the French syllabus for this class begins
with the basics.

Students who had not taken up Music (Vocal or Instrumental) in 10 + 2 are eligible to opt for these subjects in B.A. I.

Eligibility for Postgraduate courses
Students who have done their graduation or any other equivalent examination with at least 50% marks are eligible for admission to M.A. I. Panjab University rules and regulations for admission will be applicable. Candidates seeking admission to M.A. in Music (Vocal / Instrumental) and Dance will be required to take a practical test at the time of admission.
Students who have completed B.Sc Medical from the Panjab University or any other recognized university are eligible for admission in M.Sc as per rules and regulations of the Panjab University. Admission to M.Sc 1 (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry) will be through an entrance test OCET conducted by the Panjab University. Seats being limited, admission will be strictly on merit basis.
Note: Admission to all Post Graduate courses will commence two days after the admission at the Panjab University Campus takes place. |
